Good ol' reliable Doc Halladay takes the bump today to start our season of dreams (stolen from Disney). While he may not look all that happy to be suited in those magical poweder blues, that is just his steely demeanor as he prepares himself to slay the might Wong.
It makes for a nice little tagline: Doc vs The Wong... and while it may be rude, I like that moniker for the defacto #1 in the Pinstripes rotation.
I can't help but feel a little giddy about the Jays this season. The Yankees appear destined for a middling year... a reduced line-up, old pitchers, and a new manager that if they do not start well above .500 will have many screaming for his head. Also, they have the Joba, but he may prove he needs more time to adjust to his new role.
It has been discussed ad nasuem by the bobbleheads in studios but the rotation of Blue Birds may be the best in the AL. The Doc, The Fragile, Mutton Shops, Bulldog, and Opie Jr make for quite the back to back.....to back smack attack. I do not thikn it is unreasonable to expect (20, 16, 15, 15, 10) wins from that group. If so, that would prove most splendid as we would be well primed for a post-season shot.
I like their lineup and although Dickstick is gone to the confines of the ivy, the Beer Leaguer will hopefully hit like he did last year. I predict that little Corky will be an all-star this year at 2B and that Rolen, when back will be a massive upgrade over Glaus. All-in all the Jays are well positioned for success, all they need to do is follow the immortal words of any Will Ferell playing Dan Fouts, "Score more than the other team". Now that is insight!
It is nice to have the Jays back on the radio, but if you manage to live in a concrete bunker and can't get any Amplitude Modification Signals, the Drunken Jays Fans are live-blogging the game. So for any of my many, many (read: none) readers, enoy the game and let's dissect it afterwards and make many inferences that will represent the entire 162 game run gased on this one outing! It will be a blast.
Up and Atom!
